My name is Malcolm Mason. I have spent the last several years on a machine learning journey, and my aim is now to help others find the best route on their own journey.
I have worked across both technical and commercial IT roles in government, managed services and software businesses. Learning has always been a hobby for me since I completed my MSc IT, and when I am not learning or completing a course, I am teaching courses I have written. I relocated to Jersey, Channel Islands in early 2018 enabling more time for study outside of my day job.
My own journey started through understanding driving patterns through GPS and accelerometer sensors. This led to immersion in Deep Learning through building projects using deep learning frameworks including Scikit-learn, Tensorflow and PyTorch. Unsatisfied with the abstraction when using deep learning frameworks, I started focusing on building projects using Python, where I quickly ran out of mathematical knowledge. The journey to understand the inner workings has required significant focus on learning and project building to expand both mathematical and programming library knowledge.
I have documented parts of my journey in articles published on linkedin, linkedin.com/in/malcolm-mason-a901864.
